An Introduction To Analog Horror

I hate horror, I find it satanic and utterly disgusting. I don't like books, movies, shows, nothing. Even as a kid, I hated halloween. I was so startled, a jack-o-lantern made me cry. With this being said, I love analog horror. It's presentation, subject, half nostalgic feel. When I was a kid, I would hide away in my parent room and watch movies on their VHS player. Since my brother was a 90's kid, they had all the cool boy stuff. I remember watching star wars in the dark, and getting spooked by a scratch on the tape. All this leads me to say; What is analog horror?

The Premise:

Using analog technology(Cathode ray tv, recorders, vhs, dvd, internet before 2014,and systems[like security cams that hook up to a console] and Etc.) a story is conveyed in a non-linear format. That means you have to cut up the videos you are given and stitch a story together. Some big analog horror have AugmentedRealityGames elements. Here are some of my favorite Analog horrors...

The Walten Files

The WF is a collection of company vhs tape from the bunny smiles Inc. which reveals the rise and fall of bons burgers. This must be my favorite because this got me into the genre.Everything is decent here, check it out.

The Mandela Catalogue

The MC is multiple tapes stitched together to figure out how the heck did Mandela county, acted as ground zero for hell on earth. This uses religious elements which I was uncomfortable with at first, but then I overcame them.

The Backrooms

The BR is the vhs documentation of a new plain of existence. Based off of a creepy pasta, this horror is able to run miles off a single picture. Watching this is a simple must for all those liminal space seekers

The Hypnagogic Archive

The HA is an internet archive which host all sorts of cool and fun bits from the old internet. This is more of an IRL arg, try it out some time.
